Ma Brown's Brownies

1 stick butter
1/2 cup shortening
1 Cup water
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup buttermilk
2 eggs
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
dash salt
3 teaspoons vanilla
2 cups flour
4 Tablespoons chocolate (cocoa)

Melt butter, shortening and water together.
Put sugar and buttermilk and eggs in the beater, start them to beating and sift flour, baking powder and baking soda and chocolate all together and put in the mixer.
Beat a little bit.
Put in warm water mixture. Batter will be thin.

Bake in 13X9 inch cake pan.

It doesn't say but I bake on 350. The wording is from the Abilene Reporter News.
